Nadia O. Educational Psychologist

About Me

W

Welcome! I’m Nadia Omidosu, a registered Educational Psychologist (PS0160865) based in Centurion, Pretoria (Practice Number: 1207997). I am dedicated to supporting the academic, emotional, and psychological well-being of children, adolescents, and adults.

My work focuses on helping individuals understand their unique learning profiles, emotional needs, and personal strengths. I specialise in learning barriers, neurodiversity, and trauma-informed practice, conducting comprehensive psycho-educational assessments that guide personalised strategies for overcoming challenges and building resilience.

Using an integrative therapeutic approach, I combine elements of play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and other evidence-based modalities to create a safe, supportive space where meaningful growth and healing can take place.

I have a particular interest in how trauma impacts the brain, learning, and emotional regulation—an area that continues to inform and inspire my practice. I hold a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Zululand (UNIZULU) and have been practising as a psychometrist since 2011 across a variety of educational and clinical settings.

My academic background includes:

BA in Applied Psychology

BSc Honours in Psychology

PGCE (Foundation Phase Education, Cum Laude)

BPsych degree in Psychometry from the University of Johannesburg

I believe that every individual has the capacity for growth when provided with the right understanding, support, and tools — and it’s my privilege to be part of that journey.

**What to Expect in Your First Therapy Session

Your first psychotherapy session is all about getting to know each other and laying the foundation for your work together. During this time, you’ll discuss why you’re seeking therapy, share background information, and start building a connection with your therapist. They will gather important details to understand your situation and begin formulating a treatment plan. Expect a lot of questions related to your current challenges, past experiences, and the goals you hope to achieve through therapy. The session will be conducted in a safe and supportive space where you can openly express your feelings and concerns.

Key points to remember about your first session:

1. Introductions and paperwork:

Your therapist will introduce themselves, explain their approach, and go over any paperwork regarding confidentiality and practice policies.

2. Information gathering:

Be ready to talk about why you’re seeking therapy, what issues you’re facing, your personal history, and how these challenges are affecting your life.

3. Goal setting:

Together with your therapist, you’ll identify specific goals you want to achieve during therapy to help guide your sessions.

4. Discussion of therapy approach:

Your therapist may explain the type of therapy they practice and how it can help you work through your challenges.

5. Assessing your comfort level:

This session is also an opportunity for you to assess if you feel comfortable with your therapist and their approach.

6. Normal emotions:

Feeling nervous or anxious before your first session is completely normal, and it’s okay to share these emotions with your therapist. They’ll help you navigate these feelings in a compassionate way.

How to Prepare for Your First Session:

1. Think about what you want to discuss:

Take some time before the session to reflect on the reasons you’re seeking therapy and any specific concerns or questions you’d like to address.

2. Arrive on time:

Being mindful of your appointment time is important. Arrive a little early to allow time for check-in.

3. Ask questions:

Feel free to ask your therapist any questions you have about their approach, the therapy process, or anything you’re unsure about. Your therapist is there to support you, and your questions are always welcome.

This first session is a starting point, and it’s all about laying the groundwork for a successful therapeutic journey.
